Founder Minji – making online learning effective
Minji brings together rich experience in educational technology, language teaching, and cultural education to make online learning effective for all learners. She holds a master’s degree in educational technology from UBC in Canada and has professional experience with FutureLearn, one of the UK’s leading online learning platforms.
Before moving into online education, Minji worked with a global research team at Boston Consulting Group, a leading business strategy firm. She obtaines her MBA at the University of Cambridge. This combination of academic training and professional experience inspired her to found Creative Chinese Club — a place where learners from all backgrounds can have a positive, practical, and rewarding experience with the Chinese language and culture.
Minji grew up in mainland China and has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Singapopre, Scandinavia, and the UK. Her cross-cultural journey shapes her belief that language learning should be both meaningful and accessible, connecting people across borders through curiosity, confidence, and communication.
Advisor Larry – making learning Chinese safe and relatable
Larry Herzberg has been a Professor of Chinese at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1984, where he founded the Asian Languages Programme. He also serves as Director of Asian Studies. After studying Chinese for five years at Vanderbilt University, he completed his PhD in Chinese language and literature at Indiana University. Together with his wife, Xue Qin, he has published three books, including The Chinese Survival Guide, Basic Patterns of Chinese Grammar, and Chinese Proverbs and Popular Sayings: With Observations on Culture and Language.
Drawing on more than 40 years of experience teaching Chinese to American students, Professor Larry Herzberg introduced us to the Suzuki philosophy. The Suzuki Method is based on the belief that every child has ability that can be developed and strengthened through a nurturing environment. This has become an important part of our own teaching philosophy: creating a supportive learning environment where learners can try, make mistakes, grow, and progress with confidence.
Teacher trainer Paige – making online learning rigorous
Paige brings rich experience in foreign language teaching to support and empower our Chinese language teachers. She holds a master’s degree in Education from Loyola University Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in English from St. Olaf College. After teaching in American public schools for five years, she moved into online ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching.
From early in her school teaching career, Paige also took on a community leadership role in developing peer-to-peer professional development. She continues this work in the online teaching space today. As our teacher trainer, she supports our language teachers in both the theory and practice of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, working with both young and adult learners.
Her two daughters are also learning Chinese online, which adds a valuable parent’s perspective to her understanding of the learner journey.
Teacher Michelle – bringing learning to life
Originally from Inner Mongolia, Michelle teaches Mandarin Chinese online from her home on China’s east coast. She has over a decade of experience teaching Chinese to learners from a wide range of backgrounds and levels, guiding many of them towards advanced proficiency.
In her classes, Michelle blends culture with language learning to bring each lesson to life. When teaching vocabulary, she not only designs a wide range of engaging and interactive practice activities, but also creates videos from real life to help learners develop a more concrete understanding of both the language and the culture behind it. Her students love learning with her because she creates a fun, supportive, and safe environment where they can learn, explore, and practise with confidence.
Gen Z Clementine – Build cultural bridges
Clementine grew up as a digital native. She learned English online with US-based teachers and wrote to an Australia-based pen pal in a foreign language. These early experiences made her a strong believer in cross-cultural exchange and globally connected communities.
As a trilingual speaker of Chinese, English, and French, Clementine teaches young learners Chinese while bringing a fresh, international perspective to the classroom. She also helps shape our digital pen pal programme, connecting families and young learners around the world through meaningful language and cultural exchange.
Teacher Amelie – Make learning stick
Amelie lives in Shanghai China. She spent five years studying in France for her university degree in education technology before returning to China. She has over ten year’s experience teaching French language to Chinese children and now is under training to teach Chinese to Western learners.
She is also a mom of a 5-year-old daughter who says language is the key to the world. With a daughter who is learning English and French from a young age online, she is very motivated to teach Chinese online to young learners around the world. She uses creative methods and real-life stories to make learning stick.

We are a small, cross-border teaching team based in different parts of the world. Together, we teach language and help facilitate meaningful cultural exchange from where we are.
